Enjoying the wildlife:
you can find many different species of wildlife on HHI,
otherwise only seen in wild life refugees around the
country. Go to Lands End to watch Eagles and Pelicans
fish; most active at low tide. Dolphins are to be seen
there as well but also all along the beach. At dawn
you may watch deer at the golf course and around the
more wooded parts of the island. In October you can
follow the Monarch caterpillars summon on the beach
for their long flight to Mexico and the Caribbean. At
times there are millions of them! Beware of the alligators!
At every reasonably sized pond you may see alligator(s)
enjoying the sun; if you keep a safe distance (20 yards)
you can watch and take photos (alligator photo). Horseshoe
Crabs are mating in November and you can see the marks
in the sand at the beach. Collect your favorite shells
and sand dollars on the beach, but please, when you
take them with you, leave them in the garage as they
tend to smell in the house.
